The
“House Critters” Halloween 2
It was cooler
outside and the humans were now taking a walk before supper, which told the
critters the best part of the year was here. If you have read any of the other
house critter stories you already know they like treats which the special days
of fall and early winter provide.
Henrietta
Bobbie Bunny, the eldest of the critters, with Big Bunny, Rainy Reindeer, Ducky
Duck and Blue Booby make up the group. They had all seen Barb, the female
human, getting scary items out of the back closet and guessed it was Halloween.
They remembered because last year they had a very bad experience with a witch.
There were mixed feelings about this holiday within the group. Some thought the
chocolate treats were well worth the nasty things they saw inside and outside
the house, especially when the monsters came to the door. Others weren’t so
sure it was a good time as being scared isn’t to their liking. So, like many
children during this celebration they wanted the great treats you got but
weren’t sure what you went through to get them was really worth it.
Blue Booby thought
about this issue and decided they all needed to get use to scary things, which
would be all over the house and especially any witches. When he told the crew
his idea not all weren’t ready to embrace this process but said they would give
it a try. Then Barb set Blues’ process back too square one when she put out a
stack of jack-o-lanterns after the critters went to bed and forgot to turn it
off when she went to bed. The first critters up the next morning went out into
a dark living room, came around Bobs’ recliner, got scared, and went right back
into the bed room. This caused all the critters to not leave the bed room until
Bob went out and turned off the lights in the nasty thing.
Now that the
critters were even more scared of the Halloween decorations Blue proposed
another activity that caused Henrietta to flinch. Barb had added a few other
items after the critters went to bed and one of them was a witch. This one was
not as scary as the full sized witch with purple hair that had caused last
year’s issue, but it was a witch. Blue wanted them to all go see the witch up
close, which to him meant get up into the rocking chair with it! Nobody else
thought this was a good idea. Actually they all thought it was a very bad idea
and didn’t even want to go into the antique room where the witch was sitting in
the rocking chair that they normally used.
Days passed
and Blue kept trying to get the rest to face their fear by going to the witch.
One by one he got the others to go with him in to stand by the chair and find
out the witch didn’t try to hurt them. Then the big day arrived, no not
Halloween, the day they were all going to sit with the witch. Blue went first
and all the rest while holding on the each other followed up to the chair. Blue
hopped up with the help of a few wing beats and the rest followed using their
particular talent to get onto the chair. They got over their fear by finding
out there was no reason to be scared of a decoration, but Henrietta still knew
that a real witch with purple hair was a different matter!
